Nintendo has registered many new trademarks which indicate that Nintendo 3DS’ Tag Mode might be called “CrossPass”.

The newly registered trademarks of interest are “CrossPass”, “CrossPass Mode”, “CrossPass Connection” and “CrossPass Network”, all clearly hinting at online connectivity. “CrossPass” sounds exactly like Nintendo was going to do with the “Tag Mode” announced on E3: 3DS consoles would automatically exchange data with other players’ consoles which are close. Or, in other words, pass over data to other players who cross your way. So, has the Tag Mode just been renamed? No official word about this yet.

The list of new trademarks also includes many 3DS games, which were shown at E3, like Steel Diver or Paper Mario, as well as shown tech demos 3D Paddle Ball, 3D Hopper, Target Shooting, 3D Challenge and Face Ace. Does this mean Nintendo is considering to release those demos? Another mystery is the “新・光神話 パルテナの鏡” entry, the second half says “Kid Icarus”… what might it be?

FYI, here’s the full list of recently filed 3DS related trademarks:
